Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Alex Omberg (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you visit alexomberg.com, subscribe to our mailing list, download a resource, respond to a survey, or otherwise interact with us.

1. Who We Are

Alex Omberg is a publishing project producing the Western Philosophy Series and related work, operated by Artur Rodrigues de Lima, based in Sweden. Alex Omberg is a pen name; the person behind it is named here so you know exactly who holds your data. For the purposes of data protection law, Artur Rodrigues de Lima is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

2. What We Collect

Email address — when you subscribe to the mailing list, request a free resource (such as a sample chapter or guide), or otherwise sign up to hear from us.
Name — only if a form asks for it and you choose to provide it.
Survey or form responses — if you take part in an optional survey or questionnaire.
Consent records — your IP address and a timestamp, automatically recorded by our email platform when you confirm your subscription. This exists to demonstrate that consent was actually given, and isn’t used for any other purpose.
Email engagement data — our email platform records whether an email was opened and whether links in it were clicked. We use this to understand which topics readers actually find useful and to stop sending to addresses that have gone inactive. You can ask us to stop tracking your engagement at any time.

We don’t collect payment or financial information. If you buy a book, that purchase is handled entirely by the retailer — Amazon, Google Play, Apple, Spotify, or another platform — under their own privacy policies. We never see your payment details, and retailers do not pass us your identity as a purchaser.

3. Why We Collect It, and Our Legal Basis

We process your personal data on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given when you submit a signup form and confirm your subscription. You can withdraw that consent at any time — see Section 7.

We use your information to:

Send you the specific resource, chapter, or guide you requested
Send occasional updates about new volumes in the Western Philosophy Series
Tell you about new projects, platforms, or ways to follow our work — for example, a newsletter, a course, a new format, or a new resource
Occasionally invite you to take part in an optional survey
Group subscribers by interest or engagement, so that what we send is relevant rather than indiscriminate
Keep records showing that you consented to receive communications from us

We do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We don’t use your data for a purpose materially different from those above without asking you again.

We use third-party services to run our mailing list and related tools. These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are contractually required to protect your data:

Kit (ConvertKit) — our email platform, used to store subscriber data and send emails. Kit is based in the United States. Data transferred from the EU/EEA is protected under Kit’s Data Processing Addendum, which incorporates the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, and by Kit’s certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK extension, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Substack (if and when applicable) — if you subscribe to a newsletter we publish there, Substack acts as an independent controller for that relationship and its own privacy policy applies alongside this one. If we move subscribers between Substack and our main list, we’ll tell you before doing so.
Survey tools (if and when applicable) — named at the time we run a survey.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

5. International Transfers

Some of our service providers, including Kit, are based in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards — Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or the provider’s certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards by contacting us.

6. How Long We Keep It

We keep your data for as long as you remain subscribed.

If you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, we stop sending you communications immediately. We then retain a minimal suppression record — your email address and the fact that you opted out — indefinitely. This is deliberate: it is the only reliable way to guarantee you are never re-added to the list by a future import. That record is used for nothing else. All other data associated with you, including engagement history and any survey responses, is deleted or anonymised within 24 months.

If you’d prefer your address be erased entirely rather than suppressed, say so and we’ll do that instead — understanding that we then have no way to recognise you if your address is ever submitted again.

Subscribers who have not opened an email in 24 months are removed from the active list.

7. Your Rights

If you’re located in the EU/EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
Restrict or object to our processing
Receive your data in a portable format
Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal
Object to direct marketing at any time — this right is absolute, and we will always honour it
Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Sweden this is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY), imy.se. If you’re elsewhere in the EU/EEA, you may complain to your own national authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.

To exercise any of these rights: unsubscribe using the link in any email, or contact us at alex@alexomberg.com. We respond within one month.

Exercising any of these rights is free, and we won’t treat you differently for doing so.

8. Cookies and Tracking

This site does not use tracking or advertising cookies. Our website host does not include analytics or tracking by default, and we have not enabled any analytics provider.

(If an analytics provider is ever enabled, replace this section with the provider’s name, what it collects, and — if the provider sets cookies or collects personal data — a consent mechanism before it loads.)

Note that emails we send do include open and click tracking, as described in Section 2.

9. Children

Our books, our website, and our mailing list are written for adults and are not directed at children.

Under Swedish law, a person aged 13 or over can consent to the processing of their own personal data in the context of online services; some other countries set this threshold as high as 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone below the applicable age in their country. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we will delete the record without needing further explanation.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the project grows — for example, if we launch a new platform, a course, or a survey tool. We’ll update the “Last updated” date above. For changes that materially affect how your data is used, we’ll notify subscribers by email rather than relying on a silent update.
